SAC Declaration (Self-Assessed Clearance – consignments valued under A$1000)

Customs requires a self-assessed clearance (SAC) declaration to clear goods imported by air or sea that are below the A$1000 import entry threshold. Goods that are valued higher than A$1000 must be cleared on a Full Import Declaration.

JWI are knowledgeable and efficient, providing the highest level of service at competitive prices. We are experienced in all aspects of postal, air freight and sea freight clearances, and are more than happy to assist you in getting your goods cleared through the Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. We are able to hold your freight and cargo at our warehouse, or can arrange for delivery to major cities across the nation.

FID Clearance/Declaration (Full Import Declaration – Consignments valued over A$1000)

Declarations are used by licensed custom brokers acting on their behalf, to clear imported goods from customs control into the commerce of Australia or into a licensed warehouse.

If you are clearing your goods directly into home consumption and the goods have a value of more than A$1000, you will need to make an Import Declaration and pay the duties, taxes and charges that apply.

An Import Declaration is a statement made by a licensed customs broker, to the Australian Border Force providing information about the goods being imported. The Import Declaration collects details on the importer, how the goods are being transported, the tariff classification and the customs value.

If this all sounds overwhelming, JWI are here help complete your Import Declaration in no time at all.  We can also help with delivering your freight, or housing it in our safe and reliable warehouse.

    Personal Effects Clearance

Unaccompanied personal effects include your household and personal items that you are importing into Australia. To import items as Unaccompanied Personal Effects and qualify for the duty concessions, you must be an arriving person from a place outside Australia and the items must be your personal property that you owned whilst overseas.

Australian Border Force formalities for the clearance of most imports consignments are highly regulated in Australia. The correct preparation and completion of the clearance procedures are critical, as penalties can be applied if the correct procedures are not fulfilled.

Choosing an experienced and professional customs clearance broker is the first step to achieving a trouble free customs and quarantine clearance.

JWI specialises in the customs clearance of personal effects, and our team strives to provide customs clearance and brokerage services personalised to your individual business’s needs. We can organise customs clearance for all personal effects consignments.

    Postal Clearances

If you are buying goods from overseas, you should be aware that all goods over A$1000 are subjected to duties and taxes when entering Australia.

When your goods arrive in Australia, you will receive a Post Notification Card, followed by a number of confusing customs clearance forms. If this process seems a little daunting, JWI can customs clear your parcel for you at a competitive price.

All we need is the following paperwork, and your package will be on its way to you in no time:

    1. Your Post Notification Card – this is the notification from Australia Post, advising you that your purchase has arrived
    2. Suppliers Invoice – this is to prove the value of the goods, and what those goods are. For example, this could be your eBay or Paypal receipt, or a confirmation of payment email from your supplier.
    3. Authorisation Form – this is to authorise JWI to act as your customs broker

Once you’ve gotten all of these back to us, we will process your import declaration, calculate your duty and tax, and then arrange for Australia Post to send your parcel for delivery.

    It’s as simple as that!
